After about two years of development, Dotclear Version 2.0 will soon be reality. Scheduled for this summer, we were right this weekend in a second release candidate.
Less popular at international level as his counterpart Wordpress, Dotclear is also distributed under the GNU General Public License. Currently in version 1.2.x (the stable branch), it has experienced virtually no major change since 2004.
Version 2.0 of Dotclear has been entitled to a first beta in July 2006. After nearly two years of efforts, the software has been released in a version RC2 - for Release Candidate. News since May and the first RC are as follows:
* The media manager has been reviewed. It can sort by name or date files but also to send a lot and see the progression of sending a file. Practice, however activate this feature advanced, based on Flash, may not work as host.
* The options were reorganized. Further have been established including the ability to set a maximum size for images. Some titles are given to images inserted and it is possible to manage the URL tickets.
* A configuration for referencing appears: the blogger now has the choice between leaving the site to be indexed and archived, refuse storage or simply indexing by search engines.
* A new spam filter called FairTrackbacks should protect more effectively against blogs unwanted advertisements via trackback.
* New translations are emerging, integrated plugins to n’activer than necessary.
A final version soon
The output of this second release candidate can make a point about the arrival of the final version 2.0. If the exact date is still unknown, it likely will appear this summer.
Recall that version 2.0 will be an opportunity to change quite interesting including metadata management, many editors or use other databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL SQLite. Dotclear 2 will also be able to manage multiple blogs from a single installation, a WYSIWYG editor and a brand new system for templates, plugins and widgets. This major overhaul will require the use of PHP 5.
